WW2 Royal New Zealand Air Force SUDAN RAF Censor (R1) Cover 1940 to Christchurch NZ
WW2 cover sent home to Christchurch NZ by a RNZAF officer, later killed on active service training in Canada.
Plain cover franked Sudan stamps cancelled machine KHARTOUM SUDAN 10 SP 40 - shows the (type R1) cachet PASSED BY R.A.F. CENSOR No.17 - recorded in Palestine late 1939 and then in Sudan for a short period in 1940.

Signed lower left by the sender 'Cleary'. This would be later Flying Officer Alistair Grant Cleary RNZAF writing to his mother Francis Louise Cleary.
Flying Officer Clearly was killed on active service in 1943 whilst training at 111 OTU in Canada with his Mitchell II FR365 aircraft crashing into the Atlantic ocean. His memorial is recorded by the Commonwealth War Grave Commission.
