WW1 picture postcard ‘Athenes’ posted home to Gosport in England cancelled with the two line violet RECEIVED FROM H.M. SHIPS NO CHARGE TO BE RAISED.

Dated Aug 8th and endorsed O.A.S (On Active Service) with the large violet cachet ‘Passed By Censor E. M. W. H. On Active Service’ recorded by Gould (British Naval Posts and Censor Marks WW1) as used from the Royal Navy Repair Ship H.M.S Reliance.

The initials E.M.W.H are those of the Staff Surgeon Surgeon Edward M.W. Hearn. 

The Reliance spent WW1 off Mundros supporting Royal Navy operations as a repair suppoirt vessel. 

No year on card or cachets.
