WW1 British Troops AUSTRIA Tirol 1918-1919 Postcard APO FD4 Muttekpofhulle
An exceptional WW1 postcard from a soldiers with the British Army in the Tirol Febuary 1919.
Postcard of Muttekpofhulle headed ON ACTIVE SERVICE and posted home to England with a brief message ‘postcard from Austria’ countersigned ‘Pte C Robbins’ and cancelled with the datestamp Field Post Office F.D.4 27 FE 19. Shows faint violet cachet PASSED BY CENSOR 430.
(British troops were sent to theTirol in the period just after the Armistice that ended WWI, with a 2nd Bn Honourable Artillery Company (from 22 Brigade) stationed at Imst in the Tirol, where they remained through to Feb 19 being replaced by the 22nd Manchester Regiment.
The occupation battalion was not accompanied by a Field Post Office, but mail is known postmarked at various different FPOs, handled through the Army Post Office in Italy.)
