WW1 AUS Namibia S.W. Africa 1916 German Prisoner of War Triple Censor Cover
WW1 plain cover crossed (blue crayon) with 'R' Registered cachet to Germany, with the cachet (3 lines) 'PRISONER OF WAR FREE OF CHARGE AUS'. Appears that in posting, although POW mail was free of charge, the sender paid the registration fee, with the stamps then removed by the censor. Cancelled AUS 16 AUG 16, crayon 'AUS 694' marked with the registration and then censored with the South African Opened By Censor cachet. Routed via Capetown and re-censored with (red/white) Opened By censor 103 tied Capetown datestamp. (I assume the Capetown censor removed the stamps). The cross blue crown is crossed through, so surface mail. has South African PASSED BY CENSOR C.14 cachet and straight PASSED BY CENSOR. Also...... black on white British OPENED BY CENSOR P.W.5 - so assume route South Africa to England, then to Germany via Holland or Switzerland.
