WW1 plain cover Headed On Active Service and cancelled to the reverse with the Indian FPO 46 datestamp 23 OC 16 - used this date at Nairoya Iraq. Also shows part Army post Office, addressed to:

To the front the straight line cachet 1/5th BATTY “THE QUEENS” R.W.S. REGT and small part red ‘D CENSOR’.
At this time the 1/5th Royal West Surrey Regiment was located in Iraq with the 34th Indian Brigade.
A. L. Ingpen was later Major A.L. Ingpen commisioned as Land Advisor to the Commenwealth War Graves Commision. During WW1 he initially serviced with the Royal Naval Air Service as a Chief Petty Officer, but was commisioned to the staff of the cheif censor, where he reached the rank of Captain.
